The 2016 Hospital Construction Survey revealed the importance of patient satisfaction when considering design changes. A total of 86% of hospital and 3,125 hospital and health system executives viewed patient satisfaction as “very important” when considering design changes to health facilities and services.
In order to increase the satisfaction of patients, hospitals are looking to the patients for answers and including them in the creative process… and it is paying off, quite literally. Since 2012, Medicare payments are based in part on patient satisfaction scores for the HCAHPS survey. Design elements are directly affecting these scores and ultimately their reimbursements.
