Environmental theming can offer a wealth of benefits to healthcare facilities. Patients’ perceived quality of care is increased while potential anxiety is abated. Hospitals gain differentiation and increased HCAHPS scores which increase reimbursements.
There are a few rules to follow when deciding on a theme:
Keep it simple – stick with one theme and add elements in the space. Adding too many themes in one location can cause confusion.
Keep it classy – hospitals should have a level of sophistication in all spaces. The theme should not detract from the image of the hospital.
Be Sensitive – of everyone that will experience the theme including family and staff. Do not select a theme that could be interpreted wrong.
Ask – some of your patients on what themes that they would find exciting and keep these in mind when making your final decision.
Have fun – The theme should be an exciting element to add to delight your patients. Whatever you choose will add something special that you will enjoy for years to come.
